The skipper noted that his team’s chances of securing a victory vanished after losing four wickets in just three overs. At one stage, Pakistan were on track to chase a competitive total, reaching 117/1, but the collapse came swiftly as Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hafeez, and Shoaib Malik fell for just 12 runs.
The duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya disrupted the chase, leaving Pakistan in disarray. “We won a good toss but didn’t bowl in the right areas. Rohit Sharma played exceptionally well, and our plan to target him by pitching the ball up failed to materialize. It was a toss we could have used to secure a win, but we didn’t capitalize,” Sarfaraz explained.
Pakistan’s strategy faced challenges as they opted to bowl first under conditions favoring the fast bowlers. Despite the promise of assistance from the pitch, only Mohammad Amir posed a real threat early on. The team had previously struggled against Australia in similar conditions, and Sarfaraz acknowledged the difficulty of adapting to the weather. “The rain on Saturday and overcast skies on Sunday made the fast bowlers raring to go,” he added.
