The changes, announced in parliament on 8 September, affect millions of elderly citizens, widows, deserted women, persons with disabilities, and students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Social Welfare Minister AZM Zahid Hossain laid out the revised figures while answering a starred question posed by Netrokona-3 member Rafiqul Islam Hilaly.
The most immediate impact will be felt by older citizens and widows or deserted women, whose monthly stipend rises from Tk650 to Tk700.
