CID and bKash Promote Digital Safety for Female Students
Bdbusinessdaily.com – CID bKash hold workshops to raise cybersecurity and digital financial safety awareness among more than 1,100 female students in Dhaka. The joint initiative focused on helping students protect personal data, identify online fraud and use mobile financial services more securely.
The workshops were held at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College and at Ruqayyah Hall and Shamsun Nahar Hall of the University of Dhaka. Organisers brought cybercrime-prevention guidance directly to students to encourage safer decisions in an increasingly digital environment.
Practical Guidance on Cybersecurity
Officials from CID’s Cyber Police Centre and bKash’s External Affairs Department discussed common cyber threats and responsible online behaviour. The sessions addressed the protection of personal information, safe digital transactions and ways to respond to suspicious online activity.
Participants were reminded never to share their personal identification number, or PIN, and one-time password with anyone. These details can allow fraudsters to access financial accounts, even when requests arrive through phone calls, messages or social-media platforms.
The workshops also covered phishing, where fraudulent messages or links use offers, prizes or discounts to persuade people to disclose personal or financial information. Students were advised to check links carefully, avoid unfamiliar websites and report suspicious activity through official channels.
Speakers further urged students to verify information before sharing it online. Unverified posts can spread rumours and misinformation quickly through social platforms and group chats, making careful judgment an important part of digital safety.
Workshops at School and University Campuses
The first programme took place at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, with around 650 students participating. Md Jahidul Islam, BPM-Seba, additional deputy inspector general of CID’s Cyber Police Centre, spoke about cybercrime categories, data protection and ways to reduce exposure to online threats.
Sana Shaminur Rahman, deputy inspector general of the Cyber Police Centre, attended as chief guest. Major AKM Monirul Karim (retd), executive vice president and head of external affairs at bKash, joined as special guest.
Two more sessions were arranged for about 450 students at the University of Dhaka’s Ruqayyah Hall and Shamsun Nahar Hall. Md Shafiuddin Shaheen, acting deputy inspector general of CID’s Cyber Police Centre, attended both programmes as chief guest.
Professor Dr Hosne Ara Begum, provost of Ruqayyah Hall, chaired the event at her hall, while Professor Dr Nasrin Sultana, provost of Shamsun Nahar Hall, presided over the other session.
Why Digital Awareness Is Important
CID bKash hold workshops to raise awareness because secure digital services depend not only on technology and law enforcement, but also on informed users. Students who recognise risky messages and protect sensitive information can help prevent many avoidable fraud incidents.
For young people, digital safety extends beyond protecting a financial account. It also includes using caution with unknown messages, limiting the sharing of personal details, checking information before forwarding it and knowing when to seek support.
The organisers said a safer digital financial ecosystem requires shared responsibility. Institutions must maintain safeguards, law-enforcement agencies must act against criminal activity and users must remain alert while using online platforms and financial services.
FAQ: Digital Safety Tips for Students in Bangladesh
What should I do if someone asks for my bKash PIN or OTP?
Do not share your PIN or one-time password with anyone. End the conversation, avoid clicking any links sent by the person and use official channels if you need help with your account.
How can I identify a phishing message?
Be cautious of unexpected messages offering prizes, discounts or urgent account warnings. Check the sender and any website address carefully, and do not enter personal or financial details on unfamiliar pages.
Why should I verify posts before sharing them?
False or misleading information can spread quickly online and cause harm. Check whether information comes from a credible source before forwarding it to friends, family members or group chats.
CID and bKash plan to expand similar awareness workshops to more educational institutions across Bangladesh in phases, supporting students with practical knowledge for safer digital participation.
