Walton targets deeper foothold in Nepal through local partnerships

Bdbusinessdaily.com – Walton is looking to widen its business presence in Nepal, placing renewed emphasis on affordable technology products, local distribution partners and long-term market relationships. The Bangladeshi company highlighted those ambitions at its “Tushar Jatra” programme, held on Saturday, 19 September, at The Soaltee in Kathmandu.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal Md Shafiqur Rahman attended the event as chief guest and urged stronger, coordinated efforts to bring Bangladeshi brands into more international markets. He said companies such as Walton can help demonstrate Bangladesh’s growing manufacturing capabilities beyond its traditional export sectors.

The gathering brought together Walton executives, representatives of Thapa Business Group and other business partners involved in the company’s operations in Nepal. Alongside the business discussions, the programme included a presentation on Nepal, cultural performances and a raffle draw.

Economic diplomacy and local manufacturing

Rahman said locally manufactured technology goods have supported Bangladesh’s high-tech industrial development. In his remarks, he pointed to the role of domestic production in lowering dependence on imported products, conserving foreign currency and creating export income through sales abroad.

“Walton is doing remarkable work in Bangladesh's hi-tech sector. The quality of Walton's locally manufactured hi-tech products is top-notch. With these products, Walton is competing with other international brands in the global market and establishing a strong position. This is a matter of great pride for the people of Bangladesh,” Shafiqur said.

He also stressed that the international growth of Bangladeshi companies should receive wider institutional support. Overseas missions, he said, can contribute through economic diplomacy by helping domestic brands connect with foreign markets and commercial opportunities.

“Bangladeshi brands like Walton should be promoted more extensively in the international market. Bangladeshi ambassadors serving in different countries will also play a role in expanding the global market for local brands through economic diplomacy,” he added.

For manufacturers seeking to grow beyond Bangladesh, overseas expansion depends on more than product availability. It also requires trusted importers, sales networks, after-sales service and an understanding of local consumer expectations. Walton’s Nepal strategy places considerable weight on these relationships, particularly its work with Thapa Business Group.

Nepal remains a priority market

SM Mahbubul Alam, managing director of Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC and managing partner of Walton Plaza, described Nepal as a strategically important market for the company. He said Walton aims to offer technology products to Nepali buyers at prices they can afford while developing durable connections with local partners.

Walton’s broader objective, he said, is to evolve from a Bangladesh-focused electronics name into a globally recognised technology brand. The company is pursuing that goal through research, innovation, advanced production facilities and products designed to meet international standards.

“Walton is no longer just an electronics brand of Bangladesh; our goal is to establish Walton as a strong global brand. We are moving towards that goal through our own research and innovation, state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and international-standard products,” Mahbubul said.

He credited Thapa Business Group and Walton’s other commercial associates with supporting the company’s progress in Nepal. Continued cooperation, he said, is expected to strengthen the brand’s market position while maintaining service and product standards for customers.

“Thapa Business Group and all our business partners are making significant contributions to our journey in Nepal. Through mutual cooperation, we will further strengthen Walton's position in the Nepali market while ensuring the highest standards of products and services for customers,” he added.

More than eight years of collaboration

Pranimesh Thapa, director of Thapa Business Group, said his organisation had been associated with Walton’s Nepal journey for more than eight years. He said the group intends to support a wider national presence for Walton by promoting innovative and quality technology products.

“We are proud to have been part of Walton's journey in Nepal for more than eight years,” Pranimesh Thapa said.

He said the group would continue working with its business partners to improve customer service and help establish Walton among Nepal’s leading technology-product brands. The focus on partnership reflects the practical importance of local market knowledge when an international manufacturer expands its retail and service footprint.

Other attendees included Thapa Business Group Chairman Pranil Thapa, Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC Deputy Managing Director Mofizur Rahman Jakir and Walton Plaza Head of Sales MM Nazmul Hasan. Walton Plaza Managing Director Md Rayhan gave guidance to Walton Plaza officials on contemporary marketing practices and sales management.

Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC Senior Executive Director and film actor Amin Khan hosted the programme. The event combined corporate planning with entertainment, underscoring Walton’s effort to reinforce ties with its Nepali business community as it pursues further growth in the country.
