Mohanagar Express to run on Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar route from 26 October
Mohanagar Express to Link Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar From 26 October
Bdbusinessdaily.com – Passengers travelling between Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar will gain another direct rail option from 26 October, when the Mohanagar Express begins operating on the extended route. The service, which has been running between Dhaka and Chattogram, is being pushed onward to the country’s southern coastal tourist destination as rail operations expand on the Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar line.
The change is particularly significant for travellers in several districts located along the route. Residents of Feni, Cumilla, Brahmanbaria and Narsingdi will be able to board the train for a direct journey to Cox’s Bazar, avoiding the need to change trains in Dhaka or Chattogram.
Passengers from Nangalkot, Laksam, Kasba, Akhaura, Ashuganj and Bhairab Bazar will also be included in the direct service network. The extension strengthens rail links among Dhaka, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar while widening access for communities served by intermediate stations.
New timetable for both directions
Bangladesh Railway has set separate schedules for the two Mohanagar Express services. Train No 721 will leave Cox’s Bazar at 8:00am and is scheduled to arrive in Chattogram at 12:20pm. After a 10-minute halt, it will depart Chattogram at 12:30pm and reach Dhaka at 6:30pm.
On the return journey, Train No 722 will depart Dhaka at 8:30pm. It is due to arrive in Chattogram at 2:40am, leave again at 3:00am, and reach Cox’s Bazar at 6:00am.
The full trip is expected to take roughly nine hours and 30 minutes. The timetable gives travellers the choice of a daytime departure from Cox’s Bazar to Dhaka or an overnight journey from the capital to the beach resort town.
Four travel classes and 1,366 seats
The Mohanagar Express will operate with 16 coaches and a total capacity of 1,366 seats. Its accommodation options will include Shovon Chair, Snigdha, AC Seat and AC Berth, allowing passengers to select a class that suits their preferred level of comfort.
The availability of both seated and sleeping accommodation may be especially useful for the overnight Dhaka-to-Cox’s Bazar service. Passengers planning a holiday, family trip or longer-distance journey will have a broader range of options than a single-class service could provide.
Preparations have been completed for the 26 October launch. Zainal Abedin, station master at Cox’s Bazar Iconic Railway Station, confirmed that the revised operation follows an order issued by the chief operating superintendent’s office for Bangladesh Railway’s eastern zone.
Kumira stop removed from the revised route
One consequence of the new operating plan is the cancellation of the Mohanagar Express stop at Kumira station. Travellers who previously used the train there will need to choose another rail service or make alternative transport arrangements after the revised schedule takes effect.
The removal of that halt comes as the train’s route is extended beyond Chattogram. Passengers should therefore check the latest stop list and departure information before planning travel, particularly if their journey begins or ends at an intermediate station.
Five train pairs will serve the corridor
The Mohanagar Express will become the latest service on the growing Dhaka-Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar rail corridor. At present, the Cox’s Bazar Express and Tourist Express run between Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar. The Saikat Express and Prabal Express operate between Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar.
With the addition of Mohanagar Express, five train pairs will serve the route. The increased number of services is intended to support the expanding use of the Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar railway line and provide passengers with more choices for reaching the coastal destination.
For travellers from districts such as Feni, Cumilla, Brahmanbaria and Narsingdi, the extended route offers a practical new connection without requiring a separate leg of travel to Dhaka or Chattogram. It also places Cox’s Bazar within direct rail reach of a wider group of communities along the eastern railway network.
Passengers using the new service should pay close attention to the train number, departure time and class selection when making travel plans. Train No 721 will run from Cox’s Bazar toward Dhaka, while Train No 722 will operate from Dhaka toward Cox’s Bazar. The service is set to begin on 26 October.
